Our Mission

BethanyKids is a compassionate, Christian mission transforming the lives of African children with surgical conditions and disabilities through pediatric surgery, rehabilitation, public education, spiritual ministry, and training health professionals.

Who We Are

BethanyKids was founded in Kenya by a career missionary surgeon named Dick Bransford. Dr. Bransford pioneered the surgical treatment of children with spina bifida and other devastating birth defects. Today, BethanyKids at Kijabe Hospital provides pediatric surgery and neurosurgery for children, subsidizing the costs for marginalized and poverty-stricken families. We also have a pediatric surgical training program and to date have placed - and financially support - surgeons from Sierra Leone, Uganda, Ethiopia and Madagascar. Our rehabilitation program at Joytown Special Primary School in Thika, Kenya provide PT/OT services to more than 250 children with conditions such as spina bifida and cerebral palsy.
