Our Mission

DART was founded in 2020 in Manatee County after learning about the plight of exotic pets held in captivity and lack of understanding of the care they need as wild animals. We support causes that advocate for the conservation of these species in the wild in their native countries. DART is a volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing former domestic and exotic pets such as prosimians and cats with behavioral challenges. By working with a network of zoos, private owners, zoo staff volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers, and shelters, DART strives to rescue animals and provide these animals with behavioral rehabilitation and care.

Who We Are

DART is a 501c3 not-for-profit animal welfare organization currently volunteer-based and dedicated to rescuing former domestic and exotic pets with a focus on prosimians and homeless cats. By working with a network of zoos, volunteers, advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers, and shelters, DART is able to rescue animals with behavioral challenges. We provide these animals with behavioral rehabilitation to reduce stress in former exotic pets and to find a loving home for domestic pets. Brigitte Ivory is the founder of DART. She has more than 25 years of experience volunteering for a wildlife sanctuary. She also completed studies on animal behavior and more. The board has 2 more members at the moment, but we are looking to expand. We have a team of committed volunteers for fundraising and other activities.
