Our Mission

The Emmanuel Cancer Foundation provides New Jersey families facing the crisis of pediatric cancer a place to turn for comfort and support through professional in-home counseling and a uniquely tailored package of assistance – all free-of-charge. ECF is a non-profit foundation that does not receive any government or United Way funding, therefore there is no “red-tape” or bureaucracy, and there are no application forms. Our assistance begins after the first request for help. We acquire all of our donations from the private sector, from individuals, corporations, foundations and community groups. We rely solely on our community for support. The distinctive feature of ECF’s program is the tailored package of support provided at no cost to the family

Who We Are

In 1981, seven-year old Emmanuel Vizzoni was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma. His parents, Susan and Joseph Vizzoni, experienced the enormous emotional and financial hardships that families endure when a child is diagnosed with pediatric cancer. In 1983, two years after Emmanuel’s death, the family established the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation (ECF) to assist other families experiencing the trauma of childhood cancer. Since its inception, ECF has helped over 2000 children suffering with pediatric cancer in all 21 New Jersey counties. We are proud to assure that seventy-two cents of every dollar donated goes directly to helping ECF families. Our small staff of 8 plus 16 per-diem Caseworkers, along with a network of over 350 caring volunteers, is dedicated to preserving the quality of life of families faced with the enormous challenges of caring for a child with cancer. All of our services are provided free and with the assistance of our Regional Centers. Our main office is located in Clark (Union County) and our four Regional Centers are located in Bergen, Monmouth, Union and Gloucester Counties.
