Our Mission

Grassroots Leadership works for a more just society where prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization are things of the past. Every day, Grassroots Leadership staff, members, and allies get up to build power in communities, to change policies and practices of mass incarceration and deportation, to transform the narrative of criminalization, and to build a healthy and solvent organization that allows us to achieve our goals.

Who We Are

We are a group of people from diverse backgrounds envisioning a community without policing. We believe in learning from each other and supporting each other as we work towards abolition. Our organization is fueled by our members who share their lived experiences and allyship, working together to organize strategic campaigns across Texas. At Grassroots Leadership, we offer various programs and resources that support our members and former staff in joining national organizations, becoming board members, drafting legislation, speaking at public hearings, and more. We strive to build a community that is fair, safe, and free from oppressive systems.
