Our Mission

Green Cities Fund was founded in 2005 by husband and wife Tom Miller and Tran Tuong Nhu to provide "start up" assistance to small humanitarian projects. It is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and a registered California public benefit corporation. FEIN 20-3911647 Tom's law firm pays all overhead costs, so 100% of all contributions are dedicated to project support.

Who We Are

Tom is a graduate of Yale College and Stanford Law School, where he established the International Law Society. Before that he volunteered as a Frontier College teacher on railway gangs in Canada. Frontier College was the predecessor of the Peace Corps and, in 1961, Tom helped train the first group of Peace Corps Volunteers after teaching secondary school in Ghana following graduation from Yale. In 1966 he left a prominent law firm in New York City to establish, with surgeon Arthur Barsky, the Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Vietnam to treat war-injured children. The expanded Center continues as a national teaching center. Tom married Tran Tuong Nhu in 1973 while working as a UNICEF consultant expanding its program in Laos, Cambodia and all of Vietnam. Nhu, with advanced degrees in anthropology and journalism, was the first nationally syndicated (Knight-Ridder) Asian American columnist. Together they have initiated and supported a variety of humanitarian projects, including a class action lawsuit to return Vietnamese children wrongfully separated from their families by the 1975 Orphan Airlift. They assisted with a documentary on one of these children, "Daughter from Danang", which was nominated for an Oscar. More information on current projects can be found at www.greencitiesfund.org
