Our Mission

Handid Braille Services provides timely delivery of media (including braille transcriptions, tactile graphics, large print, and online resources) in soft or hard-copy, proofreading, consulting and research facilitating creation, preparation and production of media for visually-impaired readers, with a focus on public-facing organizations and institutions. But organizations that could and should be producing braille documents and accessible online media often don't consider it when planning and budgeting. This means that producing braille becomes an extra cost they did not consider, which unfortunately leads to uncertainty and hesitation. Handid Braille Services is a 501(c)(3) corporation that uses resources from your donations to reduce or remove costs to organizations for producing braille and accessible content, thereby increasing access to braille and accessible media for readers who are blind and low vision.

Who We Are

Handid Braille Services is a non-profit organization. Funding of the organization is accomplished largely through contracts, donations and grants. Handid focuses its efforts toward the provision of materials and services for public-facing organizations and institutions, including schools, municipalities, museums, hospitals, and more. Don Winiecki, Principal at Handid, holds Library of Congress Certification in braille transcription. Don is also a member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the Treasure Valley chapter of NFB-Idaho, and National Braille Association (NBA). He is a member of the Tactile Graphics Skills committee of the National Braille Association and maintainer of the NBA "Ask An Expert" forum for UEB mathematics, and tactile graphics. Don is also the USA representative on the International Council on English Braille (ICEB) committee on technical materials. This committee sets standards for the expression of technical content (STEM) in Unified English Braille for English speaking countries. Specializing in transcription of English, technical materials, and languages represented in non-Roman typeforms, Handid provides tactile readers with materials that allow them to accomplish their goals.
