Our Mission

HIAS rescues people whose lives are in danger for being who they are. We protect the most vulnerable refugees, helping them build new lives and reuniting them with their families in safety and freedom. We advocate for the protection of refugees and assure that displaced people are treated with the dignity they deserve. Guided by our Jewish values and history, we bring more than 130 years of expertise to our work with refugees.

Who We Are

HIAS is the only international Jewish organization dedicated to protecting refugees. Today, violence and persecution have forced more than 25.9 million people around the world to flee their homelands, the highest number of refugees since WWII. HIAS helps resettle the most vulnerable and works on the ground to provide refugees with legal protection, humanitarian assistance, and services to help them face the physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds of persecution. For more than 130 years, HIAS has been helping refugees rebuild their lives in safety and freedom.
