Know My World Inc

Know My World is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to positively enhancing student success through the cultivation of Social, Emotional, and Cultural Competencies. In order for students to be successful in the 21st Century, their skillset needs to extend beyond traditional forms of academics and incorporate deeper understandings of intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. The pivotal focus of Know My World is to help support teachers in cultivating classroom communities that foster self, emotional, and global awareness and support students in becoming advocates for positive change in realms of cultural sensitivity, global issues, and social justice. We believe that people learn most effectively when focusing on 3 facets: Self-awareness, relationship to others, and global understanding. Through these 3 aspects, participants develop deeper connections and can feel empowered to foster communities and create social change. When people understand who they are emotionally, intellectually, and culturally, they then possess a set of skills to explore critically. Applying methods such as self-reflection, open discussion, and group projects, students can make deep connections to the information they discover. They can think about their actions, the ways in which they coexist within cultural differences and similarities, and the impact they have on the world around them. Ultimately, people can then create a deep understanding and mutual respect for the world they live in on both a local and global scale. A rich understanding of self and the surrounding world empowers people to incite and support social change. All of our exchange programs, student resources, and teacher trainings are developed with this in mind.
