Our Mission

At Madagascar Birding Association, our mission is to promote the conservation and preservation of the birds of Madagascar through inclusive, educational, and community-driven approaches. We believe that the local community is the key player in conservation and deserves to be supported through awareness-building and access to knowledge. We are committed to engaging with communities at every stage of the conservation process to make our efforts more effective and sustainable.

Who We Are

Founded in June 2019, the Madagascar Birding Association (MBA) was established by a group of passionate Malagasy scientists—including ornithologists, entomologists, and expert birders—who share a common goal: to actively participate in the protection of the birds of Madagascar. We are a local association dedicated to: Promoting the preservation of Madagascar’s birds through education and public awareness. Encouraging the public to love and protect birds as an essential part of the ecosystem. Reinforcing the competencies of conservation stakeholders, including researchers, local communities, and students. Highlighting the ecological, social, and economic importance of birds in Madagascar’s environment. Promoting ecotourism as a sustainable way to generate income for communities and secure funding for conservation initiatives. By reaching the grassroots level with knowledge, we aim to build a more effective and inclusive conservation movement across Madagascar.
