Our Mission

The mission of Multi-Media Training Institute is to empower youth and young adults to creatively use the media arts (including video production, technical theater, journalism/news writing, arts administration, job readiness, digital marketing and entrepreneurship/financial literacy) to critically analyze, confidently express and qualitatively document their voices.

Who We Are

Multi-Media Training Institute has long held a vision and practice of producing contemporary African American theatrical performances while at the same time providing opportunities for youth to be exposed and to learn creative employment opportunities. MMTI produced several productions, including Ain't Misbehaving at the Takoma Theater (2003) directed by Mike Malone, featuring local semi professional group of actors and summer youth employment students learning technical theater, video production and arts administration. MMTI also produced Having Our Say, the story of the Delaney Sisters, also at the Takoma Theater (2004) again working with local semi professional actors and training youth in the summer youth employment program to learn technical theater, video production and arts administration. More recently, this year February/March 2020, MMTI produced Campaign 72, the story of the 1972 Presidential run of Shirley Chisholm for the Democratic nomination for President of The United States. List the organization's top three accomplishments from the past two years. 1.MMTI worked with community members and organizations to raise awareness and funds to produce a Citywide Celebration and Festival honoring DC native, actor and producer Robert Hooks on the 47th Anniversary of The DC Black Repertory Company. (see dcblackrep.com) 2. and MMTI collaborated with The Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute to develop arts administration and technical theatre workshops where students worked behind the scenes for two productions, (a) the Awards Ceremony for the 47th Anniversary of the DC Black Repertory Company (at the Lincoln Theater) and (b) Campaign 72, the story of the 1972 Presidential run by the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm (at Eaton Hotel). Students learned all aspects of theater production from shadowing the lead actress in Campaign 72 to filming, lighting and sound production for the performance. Students also learned social entrepreneurship by assisting with following up on ads to the various businesses and organizations, FedEx Kinkos, Delta's, United Black Fund, DC Democratic Women's Club, etc. that supported the play.
