Pacific Marine Life Foundation

The Pacific Marine Life Foundation (PMLF) is a non-profit foundation located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, established in 1984 out of concern for the well-being of threatened marine life. Our continuing mission is to work for real world solutions to the pressures placed upon the entire marine ecosystem by providing funding for research, conservation and public education. The foundation joins together the expertise and energy of concerned scientists, educators, environmentalists and leaders from the business community to protect and preserve marine species. In doing so, we encourage responsible interaction between marine animals and humans. In the thirty-four years of the PLMF’s existence, the Foundation has distributed over one million dollars in grants to research scientists, environmentalists and educators in support of their efforts to protect the marine environment from harmful human intervention. Examples of projects funded by PMLF include: Cetacean Stranding Response – PMLF provided matching funds in support of the 2018 Prescott Grant. Polynesian Voyaging Society – PMLF provided financial assistance for the “Hokulea” voyage to the Northwest Hawaiian Islands. Big Island Education Outreach – PMLF funded transportation and tuition for marine science field trips for over 2500 elementary students over 8 years. Malama Maunalua Bay – Supported this successful project for 5 years. Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle Recovery – PMLF funded medical care that lead to the release of 2 injured honu.
