Southern Vision Alliance

SVA was founded in 2014 after conducting a listening tour across North Carolina, receiving input from folks on the frontlines – particularly communities of color, LGBTQ people, working-class families, immigrants, and youth. There was a clear need for infrastructure and capacity-building support for youth and directly-impacted communities in order for them to have the ability to organize in their own names. Our movement is part of historic struggles for justice, equity, and liberation that span generations. Because of this, our commitment is to the broader movement at all times, with every crisis, and every opportunity. While we believe in building strong organizations, we also believe in building together and actively work toward cultivating collaboration instead of competition. Because the issues facing our communities are deeply connected, we strive to build multi-racial, multi-gendered, multi-national, and multi-generational alliances. We prioritize our resources to support young people, build community organization, and aid trusted leaders of directly-impacted communities that are engaged in frontline struggles for justice, dignity, and change.
