The Healing Hands Project

The Healing Hands Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the homeless women of King County. Here in Seattle, the issue of feminine menstrual health in our homeless population is a topic that has yet to be conquered. King County is ranked number three for the largest concentrated homeless population in the country. Roughly 36% of the homeless population in King County are female. Unfortunately, 100% of these women have limited to no access to feminine hygiene products. One of our main programs is providing monthly menstrual hygiene kits to shelters on a never-ending basis. Our menstrual hygiene kit includes: 5 regular flow tampons, 5 heavy flow tampons, 10 pads, V-booklet (menstrual hygiene guide), new underwear, pamprin (for menstrual cramps), hot pad, hand sanitizer, disposable wipes, and biodegradable disposable bag. Continual attention and ease of access to these basic feminine needs truly ensures that all women within our program may achieve goals with dignity and support. With our amazing staff, dedicated volunteers, and charitable donors we are able to achieve our common goals. We have had the fortune of being able to have the homeless women of whom we serve create this program, thereby allowing for ownership for within and guaranteeing that what the women are asking for is completely supported.
