Water for Good

Water for Good provides access to clean water and works to make a lasting improvement in people's lives in one of the world's most neglected countries, the Central African Republic (CAR). Water is the first step out of extreme poverty, and for over a decade we have worked to meet this immediate need, using water as a tangible way to improve lives in villages across CAR. Our teams have drilled over 600 new wells...but new wells are just the beginning! Real transformation happens when the water keeps flowing, year after year, and communities can move their focus from survival to education, better health, and business opportunities. To keep the water flowing—for good—our teams provide regular well maintenance visits. Through these visits, we build relationships with communities that allow us to offer training in sanitation and hygiene, and assist them in the development of their new water source as a financial resource for the community. The Central African Republic has historically faced many economic difficulties, which have only increased in recent years. In 2013, a rebel group overthrew the government—the resulting back and forth battle between the rebel group and local militia has meant thousands of deaths, a complete break down of what economic infrastructure there was, and nearly one fifth of the population now living as refugees. Through all of this, Water for Good has been able to continue operation, primarily due to the fact that our staff is almost entirely local and able to rapidly assess and react to the constantly shifting situation. Since the conflict started, we've been able to drill over 100 new wells, complete dozens of sanitation and hygiene projects, and complete thousands of water pump service visits, keeping the clean water flowing to those who need it most!
