Learn About Poverty

While poverty remains a major challenge worldwide, there have been many positive developments in recent years. According to the World Bank, the global poverty rate fell from 36% in 1990 to 8.6% in 2018, with more than one billion people lifted out of extreme poverty. Many countries have implemented effective poverty reduction strategies, such as investing in education and healthcare, promoting economic growth, and providing social safety nets for the most vulnerable. There has also been a growing recognition of the importance of ending poverty as a key sustainable development goal, with governments, businesses, and civil society organizations working together to address poverty and inequality. In addition, there has been a shift towards more inclusive and participatory approaches to poverty reduction, with marginalized communities and individuals being empowered to take an active role in shaping policies and programs that affect their lives. These positive trends indicate that progress is being made in the fight against poverty, and that there is hope for a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
